If there’s anything this weekend has taught me, it’s who really matters. A colossal ray of sunshine has beamed down and highlighted those worth investing emotion and effort in. What’s startling is that I never realised in this huge group of people around me, I could still feel alone. I now know why.
Superficial connections are easy to make. These are the people whom you will laugh and play with, make jokes with and perhaps even go on adventures together with. It’s only a true friend who will ever provide help in a time of need. A desperate time of need which would involve some help on their part. Or a teensy bit of inconvenience. If people truly cared about you, they would sacrifice their own whims and fancies to support you in a time of need.
I wanna thank Neyha, who was there for me right away. Thank you for immediately opening your home to me and not leaving me homeless for 3 weeks. Thank you for also hearing me bawl over the phone and helping me put things into perspective.
I also want to thank Adrian, who was totally fine with me crashing at his. Truly appreciated your help and I’m glad you didn’t turn me away.
I want to thank Albert, who heard me out and people-bashed with me. Your solidarity was well-appreciated and your efforts to distract me were very sweet. I will definitely be your tomboy buddy to the cinemas!
I also want to thank Marite who came over with cake and fed me while also offering her place. Both Jason and you rock and I’m glad you both are my friends.
But most of all, I want to thank my boyfriend. Because without you, I don’t know how I’d pull through stuff here on my own. You may not be here physically but your support means so much to me. It’s barely been a year but already, you are my best friend. And even though we do squabble like all couples, you do so much for me when you’re just on Skype and I can hear your voice in the background despite having your own stuff to deal with. It helps. More than you know. I love you.
Not everything in life comes in nicely wrapped packages. But it’s the unwrapped ones that truly do surprise you.
